The Maori

Ever since I watched the movie Once Were Warriors, I've had a big interest in the Maori. I have to admit that I find their tattoos very interesting, and the fact that generally for you to get a Maori tattoo, the artist have to spend time with you, and get to know you, before they can make your tattoo makes it seem so much more personal.

Another thing about the Maori that I find interesting, is their Haka. Haka is a traditional dance by the Maori, and is among others used as a war dance.

The Haka is also used by the New Zealand All Blacks (New Zealands National Rugby team) before they start a match, and I will admit that every time I see it, is still sends shivers down my back. You can read much more about the All Blacks Haka here, and there are also a few videos where you can see them preform it.

I do my best to respect native traditions, and really enjoy it when there are people who make an effort to keeping them. When I someday go to New Zealand, I really want to visit one of their places and see a Haka in person.

I haven't see Whale Rider, but it's on my computer now, so I'll get around to watching it soon :)
